Two years in the making, David Patterson finally reviews his 500 horsepower “BLUEJZ”.
The Nissan S13 is one of the most sought-after chassis. Like the SW20, the S13 is lightweight and dependable. While the 240SX received the underpowered KA engine in North America, the rest of the world benefited from the turbocharged SR20DET. Thus Silvias, as they are known as in Japan, are often swapped with General Motors’ LS small-block or in this case, Toyota’s bulletproof 2JZ. Has it been done before? Yes. What’s different about this one? For starters, this car is blue. It also took the owner two years to complete.
The owner, David Patterson, or as you might recognize him, ThatDudeinBlue, spent a considerable amount of time and effort building his dream import. It all started with a 1990 240SX with 240,000 miles in Atlanta. David originally dropped in a twin-turbo 2JZ but due to constant overheating issues, the motor blew up after a 500-mile road trip. He then decided to go with a single turbo setup. With the new turbocharger installed, it makes full boost at just 3,300 rpm. The car produces 509 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque on pump gas. With a fresh coat of Ford Grabber Blue paint, this S13 is once again new. Beyond that, the list of modifications is long but carefully selected. As David puts it, “It’s just fun.” No argument there.
